Now the fun begins!

Small deficit because I was hankering for M&Ms and I also had an extra snack. I have a blasted cold so I did not go to the gym. I did get on the scale this morning since Wednesday is my new weigh day. I am at 267. Which means I am up 2 lbs. vs. 5 lbs. so that is good news. In other news: I will be moving in officially on November 1st. I have to give 30 days notice where I am at now. The moving and packing will be good exercise for sure! My mom and I have been talking about Christmas plans. Since my dad passed away 10 years ago, my mom and I have always gone away for the holidays. We have gone on two cruises (Mexico and Caribbean), Las Vegas, Reno, Santa Barbara, San Francisco and Boulder, Colorado. We haven't decided what we want to do this year. She even mentioned going on another cruise. The last cruise proved to be a big motivator so we will see. Feels weird to be thinking about Christmas but it is going to be here before we know it! Hope you all are having a good week and thanks for all the positive comments about my move! Ch-ch-ch-changes! Until next time...

I got the Apartment!

I got the call today that I got the apartment! Yay me! It will be nice to have some wiggle room (studio vs. 1 bedroom) and I will be saving $125 per month on rent alone. I can also get Dish Network and save money AND get a DVR. What is wild about this is in the back of my mind I have been thinking it was time to move but wasn't doing anything about it and then Danielle called and said she saw it was available Saturday and as of Monday I am moving. God works in mysterious ways! So Carla over at Mizfit asked me if I thought the bodybugg was worth the money. My opinion is a little skewed because mine was a gift AND I am using the older model. However, I think the bodybugg has been the key to my success. It is a GREAT tool to help understand the equation of Calories burned vs. Calories Consumed. I am a visual learner and it really put it into perspective for me. There are pie charts, bar graphs, line charts - you name it! They do retail for $200 but they do go on sale on occasion and you can also get one on eBay or craigslist for cheaper. I saw one the other day on Craig's for $75. I also read about a sweepstakes for a bodybugg thru 24 hour fitness. You need to be a member but all you have to do is enter how many calories you burned in your last workout. I may even enter because I wouldn't mind having the newer version. Anyways, had a mellow night last night. Made the chicken for dinner and did some laundry. Now I have to think about packing. Yikes! At least we are doing the garage sale and I have to go through my stuff anyways. Planning on going to the gym with Karla. She has been doing really well and went 3 days last week! Until next time...

P.S. Jenn over at Watch My Butt Shrink gave me the honorable Honest Scrap award. Thank you Jenn! You are too kind!

Rethinking Mondays

I did not wear my bugg on Sunday at all. I ate like crap and drank at least 4 or 5 beers yesterday. The scales said I was up 5 lbs. this morning. Part of it is water retention from all the salt I consumed. Bleccchhh... Feeling pretty gross this morning... Not a nice way to start the week. The difference is however that instead of landsliding into a food oblivion I will get back on that horse again. I took chicken out to make for dinner tonight and during the week for lunches. I am going to the grocery store at lunch to get breakfast and snacks for work. Maybe I will change my weigh day to Wednesday cuz I don't think I am liking Mondays. Until next time...

P.S. Kate at Fabulous at 50 gave me an Honest Scrap award. Thank you Kate!

I might be moving!

Had a good night on Friday and got some extra sleep. Met my mom for breakfast this morning and went back to her house to do some paperwork. Dave and I had Mexican food for dinner and I had a Crab Tostada. I did have a Mango Margarita but It was 102 here today so it was refreshing and yummers. Wonder how many calories where in that sucker. Whoa! Well an apartment next door to Danielle's place just became available today. It is right down the street from where I am at and it is next to a park and Senior Center. It is a one bedroom for $900 and I pay $1,000 now for a studio. I already submitted the application and I should hear something by Tuesday. All I really need is a couch and I am set. It also has tons of storage! Speaking of the Senior center... they allow people who have medical conditions and are residents use their facilities for free even if they are not seniors. It was recently renovated and it has two pools and state of the art exercise equipment so I am going to go in next week and sign up. My friend Judy goes there so we could coordinate going together. I really want to swim. I was on the swim team in high school and have always liked it but of course hate being seen in a bathing suit. I don't think they would mind as much at the senior center as they would at the gym if you know what I mean. Hope you all are having a good weekend. Until next time...

Crunchy Friday

Instead of going to the gym I went home and took a nap. Dave wanted to run some errands so we went to Target. I had a good salad in their snack bar with chicken, cherries and goat cheese. I have been looking for some bar stools and found some last night for $25 each! I was thrilled because the ones I was looking at before were $40 each so yay for me. (I got the taller ones which are 30")

After I dropped off Dave I went to see Danielle. There were a gazillion college kids there. I even got hit on by a 25 year old. OMG!! I drank 1.5 drinks but I was up until 3:00 am! Yikes! I can't tell you the last time I did that. I am usually in bed by 10:00 p.m. Needless to say I am feeling pretty crunchy today. I am hoping it flies by quickly. Happy Friday to you all! Until next time...

Thursday Randomness

Had a nice visit with my mom. It was a little awkward but it was fine. We went to Marie Callender's for dinner and I had a Cabo San Lucas Salad. I ordered the Petite size and it was still 770 cals. I planned ahead though and knew what I was in for.

Back on August 7th I had my eyebrows done by threading. Well I just had them done again and it was not as bad. The outgrowth was way less then when waxing and I think it lasted longer. It is only $10 too so I think I will keep going.

Plan on going to the gym with Karla tonight. I want to go to some of the classes so I am going to bring the schedule and see what looks good. They have everything you can think of including, hip-hop, belly dancing, Zumba, kickboxing, etc. I look forward to the day that I can take a kickboxing class!

Hadley kindly let me know that I was remiss in posting my 10 bloggers for the Honest Scrap award so I added them to the post from yesterday but here they are again in case you missed them.

  1. 100in12
  2. Halving Hadley
  3. Me vs. The buffet
  4. 266
  5. No to the Deuce
  6. Fat[Free]Me
  7. Eat. Sleep. Get Fit.
  8. Fat Daddy Rants

The other day I went to Safeway and did Operation Beautiful. I saw a lady go into the store and spotted which car was hers so I stuck my note on her car window near the handle. It said "You look fabulous today!" I should have taken a picture but my phone was dead. This time I did not stay to see her reaction but hopefully it made her smile. Until next time...

Now we're talking!

Calories burned: 2,901
Number of steps: 10,434
Physical Activity: 1 hour 5 mins
I had a really busy day at work yesterday and piled on the steps during the day. Went to the gym with Karla and we explored some of the machines in addition to doing our cardio. I did low weights and it felt good. I think that this is one of the biggest Calories burned amounts ever! Those are some great numbers! I didn't watch Biggest Loser last night or last week. I usually am glued to it but my friends bowl on Tuesday nights so I like hanging out with them and cheering them on. Just have to avoid the beer... I am getting together with my mom tonight. We'll be going to Fish Market for dinner and that is always a treat. It has been a few weeks since I have seen her which unusual for us. I am trying not to agonize over it. I am sure it will be fine. Oh by the way, I thought I had posted my 10 Honest Scrap recipients but apparently I hit save instead of publish (you were right Hadley!) so here they are:

Just to recap on the rules:

1. “The Honest Scrap” award must be shared!
2. The recipient has to tell 10 true things about themselves
3. The recipient has to pass along this prestigious award to 10 more bloggers.
4. Those 10 bloggers all have to be notified they have been given this award.
5. Those 10 bloggers should link back to the blog that awarded them.

Stuff & Scrap

Monday was fairly uneventful. Did fine on food but not much activity. I didn't put my bugg on until lunchtime so there was a bigger deficit then what is noted above. Since I have been in purge mode I decided to go through my filing cabinet and ditch some old paperwork. Well it was like walking back through time seeing all the old pictures, cards, mementos etc. I even cried at one point. I got through 90% of the top drawer and decided to call it a night. It feels wonderful getting rid of stuff plus we are going to be having another Garage sale before Halloween so I need to keep the ball rolling. My next project is to go through my storage. I just have way too much stuff!!

My friend Jo over at 282.5 has given me the prestigious Honest Scrap Award! Thank you Jo! Here are the rules of the award:

The Rules that go with receiving this award:

2. The recipient has to tell 10 true things about themselves
3. The recipient has to pass along this prestigious award to 10 more bloggers.
4. Those 10 bloggers all have to be notified they have been given this award.
5. Those 10 bloggers should link back to the blog that awarded them.

I will provide the list of bloggers in a subsequent post but here are the 10 things you don't know about me.

1. I have two tattoos. A hibiscus flower and the Sun
2. I have 7 holes in my ears but only wear one pair of earrings now
3. I am obsessed with cleaning my ears
4. I love Pink (you may know this!)
5. I have lived within a 15 mile radius my whole life

Going to the gym tonight with Karla. I am actually looking forward to it! Until next time...

P.S. Happy first day of Fall! It is going to be over 100 degrees here today...

New Weigh Day

Had a very productive Sunday. After dropping Dave off, I went to the laundry mat and washed my comforter. I was also able to vacuum and mop the floor and clean out the junk in my trunk before I had to go back and get him. I ended up walking around my old high school where he was refereeing so I got some exercise. I probably walked a mile or so with some incline. (no bugg on)

After we got back to my place I finished my workbook for class. There are some good exercises that I will share soon. It needs to be handed in this week since next Sunday is my last one - Yay! This will enable Dave to come out with just me instead of doing the buddy system. He will also be able to go out for 8 hours at a time. The program is about 6 miles from where I live so it is very accessible but it does get cumbersome having to drive back and forth for them to "check-in" every 4-5 hours.

I also finished reading Amazing Adventures of Dietgirl I really enjoyed it! (Thanks Jenn!) Shauna is very witty, funny, honest and a tiny bit obsessed with chocolate! She lost a total of 175 lbs! If any of you would like to read it I would be more then happy to send it to you. Just let me know in the comments. I am going to read Confessions of a Carb Queen next.

So I got on the scale this morning and it said 265 which brings me back to 50 lbs. again. Now Friday is my usual weigh day but I would like to move it to Mondays. Seems to me that more people weigh in on Mondays, it would help me avoid any binging in anticipation and a lot of the challenges ask for weight updates on Mondays... so there you have it. I have my bodybugg in the car so I will go down and get it after I have had some coffee. Until next time...

P.S. It is going to be in the upper 90s - low 100s today!

Better days are coming!

I had a great day yesterday! After Morning Chi I took Dave to his football game (he is a Ref) and went to the Farmer's Market. I bought some purple and red bell peppers, a loaf of bread and some cute blue earrings. Spent the next few hours straightening up and spot cleaning the carpet. Also got some reading in (The Amazing Adventures of Dietgirl) Went to pick Dave back up and we had some dinner. We cut up some leftover tri-tip and sauteed the peppers and onions and put them in 98% fat free tortillas. I added a little sour cream to mine and they were really tasty!

My mom rescheduled on me so I have the day open! I am going to class (only 2 more!) and then Dave has more football games. I think I am going to take my bedding to the laundry mat. It is going to be in the upper 90s today so I will be trying to stay cool for sure. I know that summer is over on Tuesday but how can you call it Autumn when the temps are over 100 degrees? Hope you all have a wonderful day! Until next time...

Chi for Beginners

I decided to try the video Chi for Beginners this morning. I had to wake up a little so had my Starbuck's Pike's Market coffee first. Yummers! The verdict: I really enjoyed it! I didn't know if I would like his voice or teaching style but it was subdued and peaceful. The back drop was the ocean so all I could hear was his calming voice and the lapping of the waves on the beach. At 43 and 268 lbs. I am surprisingly flexible although I did hear a few creaks and cracks when bending or lunging. If I could only get my arse up 20 mins earlier every day I could do it daily. Stranger things have happened... hahaha! Until next time...

Insult to Injury

I am feeling better today thank goodness. Today is weigh day and I wasn't going to add insult to injury but I did and I am up 3 lbs. No activity, no bodybugg, no loss. I am not that surprised. What is frustrating is I have gained and lost the same 3 lbs. for a few weeks now and not making any progress. I will not beat myself up about it though. Moving onward and upward!

Last night I went to grab dinner with Dave. I arrived a little early so I perused the thrift store and I found The Firm Cardio Workout DVD for $5 as well as a Morning Chi video for $2. You inspired me Jo! I will try them over the weekend and let you know how they are.

No big plans for the weekend. Will see my mom for the first time in a few weeks. She wants to do a little shopping on Sunday. It will be nice to see her but I am still a little apprehensive about it. She asked me if I would go with her so I guess she does want to see me.

Teetering

I am still teetering on the emotional and physical fronts. I know this too shall pass. I was doing some research and confirmed that the Darvocet can have adverse affects so it is good that I am not imagining things. I guess I just need to wait until it works itself out of my system.

The other day in class, we did an exercise that I wanted to share with you. It was a fun exercise.

Weird Wednesday

I am finally back to work today. My arm is feeling better but my brain is still muddy from the pain meds and I have an upset stomach. I also messed up on my daily medications over the last few days so I am out of sorts. I just want to get through the day. Until next time...

Monday, September 14, 2009

Blurry Monday

I stayed home from work and did nothing but ice, take pain meds and sleep but it's feeling better and I can at least get dressed properly for work. Will most likely do the gym tomorrow with Karla. I wanna do the steam sauna too. Until next time...

R.I.C.E.

I didn't go to church because I can't put a bra on. Ughhh... I am still going to my class though because it is only a 1/2 hour and not formal at all. Plan on R.I.C.E. for the rest of the day. Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. Oh yeah and meds. Ibuprofen during the day so I can function and Darvocet at night for sleep. I peeked at the scale and I am down another pound. I am getting obsessed about weighing again so I need to put it away but it was nice to see that number. I can't wait to get the 250s. Once I break into the next decade, I will also have less then 100 lbs. left to lose. That will be exciting! I am not going to let this arm thing get me down. I am back on track and will be rocking the gym with Karla next week. At least it does not impact my cardio right? Hope you are enjoying your weekend! Until next time...

Calcific Tendonitis

Calcific Tendonitis refers to a build-up of calcium in the rotator cuff, and is often aggravated by an existing condition, such as Impingement or conventional tendonitis in the shoulder. When calcium builds up in the area, pain results from acute inflammation. Fluid movement of the joint is reduced. Calcium is deposited in the rotator cuff, between the humerus and acromion inhibiting the normal, friction-free movement of the joint. Impingement or tendonitis, which reduce the mobility of the joint leads to degenerative change and Calcium deposition. Frozen Shoulder is signified by pain and stiffness in the shoulder joint; limited range of motion and pain during nighttime rest are common symptons. A frozen shoulder (known also as adhesive capsulitis) is a condition that commonly occurs in older athletes. Frozen shoulder is five times more common in people with diabetes, though the reason for this is unknown. A lining of fibrous tissue, known as a capsule, surrounds the shoulder joint. The capsule is fully stretched when the arm is raised above the head, and it hangs down as a small pouch when the arm is lowered. Frozen shoulder occurs when this lining becomes thickened and swollen. It is thought a frozen shoulder may come on as a result of a previous injury, but also can come on for no apparent reason or may be triggered by a mild injury in the shoulder area. There are three phases to this condition, starting with pain, then stiffness and finally a stage of resolution as the pain eases and most of the movement returns.

XOXOX,

I'm taking it

So I got on the scale a little later in the morning after moving around some and it said 265 so I am taking it. That brings me back to 50 lbs. lost. Yay!

These Darvocet are really making me loopy though. I am going to attempt showering today. It should be interesting. I am right handed and it is in my right arm so it ain't gonna be easy. I really wanted to go to the gym today but since I am taking the meds I don't think it is a good idea. Hopefully by next week I can get some relief and get back over there. At least I can still do cardio. I haven't eaten much because I am not very hungry. I had a sandwich, peaches and some toast yesterday. Hope you are having a good weekend. Until next time...

Tendinitis

Short post because I am in pain and haven't slept a wink. I went to the doctor and I have Tendinitis in my arm (shoulder) I am staying home from work per docs orders. It will take 2-4 weeks to get better. Ughhhh.... The good news is I am down 1 lb. this week and I went to the gym again last night. Until next time...

Back in the Game!

I went to the gym! Yes, you did read that right... I FINALLY went to the gym! We did cardio on the treadmill. I was able to put it at a higher speed then I ever have before AND maintained it for 30 mins. It felt great! Karla got a 7 day pass so we are going to go again tomorrow. It is a new club and pretty swanky. It has 2 pools and a separate jacuzzi in the women's locker room. There is a steam sauna and a dry sauna. They even have a bathing suit dryer that you put your suit in for like two seconds and it comes out dry! We talked and walked but they individual monitors that you can plug your iPod into to charge it, watch videos, TV or track your run through Nike It is pretty spiff! On a more serious note: For some reason my right arm is hurting. I think I may have slept on it wrong a few days ago but the pain is getting worse not better. I am going to put in a call to the doctor to see what I can do for it. I can't lift and there is shooting pain down to my fingers. :-( Last night I woke up at 4 a.m. from the pain. Until next time...

XOXOX,

P.S. I had a visit from the Blog Fairy in the middle of the night! What do you think?

9/9/09

I am in a better mood today. We didn't walk last night. Karla wasn't in the mood so it made it easier not to go. I had a pleasant evening nonetheless. Did fine on calories and had a pretty good deficit. I need to do some domestic tasks but need to get my fat arse to the gym. Asking self: Why do I keep talking about it and not doing it? I have nothing else on my agenda tomorrow night and if I plan properly I can get everything done. It needs to become a new habit. It is ridiculous that I can't even get there once a week? How tough is that? I will feel so much better physically and mentally and I can find a punching bag! Until next time...

Psuedo Monday

Calories burned Sunday: 2543
Calories burned Monday: 2142

After yesterdays fiasco with my mom I went to Sizzler with Danielle and ate. After calming down and thinking about it some more I came to the conclusion that it was mostly blood sugar related. Between Dave bitching about my driving last weekend, hitting the pole on Wednesday and then her questioning me it just pushed me over the edge. It is not an excuse because in hindsight I should have handled it better but it is what it is.

I am still in a funky mood today. I am trying to curb the negative thinking though. I don't want to spiral out of control and unravel all the hard work I have put it in in the last 9 months. Not in the mood to walk tonight but know that it will only make me feel better. We actually recruited two ladies, Judy and Margaret to go with us. Not sure if they will come but I say the more the merrier. Until next time...

Anger Management

Didn't do anything productive yesterday. We rescheduled the redecorating. I did reach my target activity though which was 30 mins.

My name is Katie J and I need Anger Management. There have been a number of occasions as of late that are making this more apparent. For example: I had a lazy morning this morning and did not eat anything or have any coffee. I was supposed to go to the movies with my mom. We got to the parking lot and she questioned my parking abilities and I blew up at her and decided I just wanted to go home. We drove in silence and then exchanged words when we got back to the house. She did say that I seem to get angry a lot. WTH is wrong with me? Ughhh.... I am emotionally and physically tired so it is going to be an early night. At least it will be a short week. Hoping to go walking tomorrow. Maybe I should sign up for kickboxing... Until next time...

Whirlwind Saturday

Good calorie burn for both days. I rode my bike last night and got lots of walking in today. Went to a BBQ and hung out with Dave after he refereed some Football games. It was a good day but I am tired and tomorrow is going to be a long busy day. I have church and class and I am going to have Deb and Larry over and they are going to help me do some redecorating. Hope you are all enjoying the long weekend! Until next time...

Facing the Music

Nice deficit for yesterday. Had a good dinner with my Mom at Fish Market. I had Chilean Sea bass. Something different for me. It was good and will try it again for sure. So I got on the scale this morning as it is my "official" weigh day. I am up 3 lbs. It is what it is. Yes, I am bummed but I will not unravel all the work I have done and start backsliding. It is from beer and I also got a call from TOM so I will just keep pushing forward and hope for good results next week. FYI, I am not going to update/remove all the stats. I will update the ticker though.

It will be so nice to have a 3 day weekend! I think Danielle and I will go to the flea market tomorrow, Sunday church and Dave and then Monday I am going to hang with my mom and go see a movie. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking about 500 days of Summer but I need to do some more research. Hoping you all have a fantastic weekend! Be good and if you can't be good... look good! Until next time...

XOXOX,

P.S. Mom already saw Julie and Julia

Every Rose Has It's Thorn

Every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has its thorn

I had a good time at the concert last night! I had a Chicken Sandwich and a Fat Tire for $21.50 and thought it was insane to pay that price but oh well... I did 9,344 steps and 58 minutes of activity according to the bugg. But then I drank beer... I need to stop drinking beer! I went 7 months and 25 days without it so I can do it again... Poison ended up being the best. We missed Cheap Trick and the sound was funky when Def Leppard played. We left early anyway to avoid the crowds...

When I was pulling into my carport when I got home from work (before the concert) I misjudged the distance between my car and the pole and have a big 'ole scrape down the right side. The door is a little dented as well and is now difficult to open. I have pulled into that spot 1,000s of times but a large truck just recently started parking next to me so I have had to make adjustments. Well I guess I adjusted wrong. I feel like a complete LOSER! Dave was just telling me to be careful when pulling in there. Could it be the mirror I broke the other day? Maybe the full moon tomorrow? Big sigh...

Going to Fish Market for dinner tonight. I haven't seen my mom for a week and a half which is pretty unusual but I think I just needed a little reprieve from her. The last few times we got together she was pretty grumpy and she just sucked the last shred of energy that I had. I am looking forward to seeing her though.

Kristina over at The Incredible Shrinking Woman gave me a Lovely Blog award. Thank you SO MUCH. You are too kind! Until next time...

Bras, Bands and Bugg

What a difference a day makes! I got in all my water and walked 28 mins. and I am down 2 of the 4 lbs. so I feel much better. Incentive to stay on track and keep drinking my water for sure.
Bras: So I got a Sport Bra and I have never had one before. It fits and is snug which I assume they are supposed to be but I don't feel like it offers much support for my attempts at jogging. Has anyone else had this experience? I suppose if I wasn't bouncing too much it would be okay but... Bands: I am going to a concert tonight with Danielle, Karla and some other people. It is Def Leppard with Cheap Trick and Poison! I must admit that I do like Cheap Trick and some Def Leppard but don't know any Poison songs. I know Brett Michaels from Rock of Love and that is about it. Danielle asked me to be the DD so I am going but it is not my kind of concert. Should be very interesting (Note to self: Bring camera) Bugg: I have been slack about wearing my Bugg the last few days but as Shelley commented yesterday, I need to get it back on and get back on target. I think I had a bit of false self confidence thinking that I could "handle" eating and tracking without it but I was obviously mistaken. It also showed me that drinking the proper amount of water is crucial. Hope you are all having a good week! Until next time...

Yikes!

First of all I forgot to wear my bugg again today! Grrr.... I do well during the week during the day with food because I have breakfast and lunch planned out for the work week. I plan on walking with Karla tonight so I will wear the bugg on our walk. By the way, did I mention there is a gym in my office building? They recently remodeled and I have yet to go check it out. It is on my list this week of tasks...

So I happened to get on the scale and I am up 4 lbs! YIKES! It is not my usual weigh day (Friday) but like most of us I step on it during the week just to check... I have been bad with water (as usual) and I drank beers on Friday but that was pretty damn upsetting. It could be TOM coming too... hard to say... Last night I did about 15 mins. of Core Rhythms and I am not fan. I can see how it would be effective but there is something funky about it. I also printed out the gym classes to see when I can go to Zumba and noticed they have Belly Dancing on Tuesdays! Oh my! That might be fun... hmmmm... Until next time...

XOXOX,

P.S. Holy cow I have 124 followers. I was just saying the other day how I could not believe I had 100! WOW!!! I am deeply humbled!
