Still winging it in general. We had a catered lunch yesterday and I ate 2 bat sugar cookies and then in the evening had a kid's grilled cheese and fries from Jacque Le Cube. I am looking forward to being able to cook again in my new place. I need to get the pilot light lit sometime this weekend or I will have to wait until 11/9. Also won't have Internet, TV or phone until next Tuesday. I probably won't post over the weekend unless I schedule a post ahead of time. It will be interesting to see all the activity when I upload on Monday.
Just had to share... when I dropped Dave off last night and I was driving home I saw a house with Christmas lights on. They also had two wreaths that lit up as well. Hmmm last time I checked my calendar it was Halloween not Christmas folks! What are they thinking?!?! It is bad enough that we see Christmas stuff in stores starting in September but that is just downright ridiculous. By the way, I have been driving by that house since June and the lights were on for the first time last night. Hope you all have a safe and spooky Halloween! Until next time...

We got the go ahead from Dr. G to go on the Cruise! Yipeeee!!!! Mom will need to see if there is still spots available on the particular cruise she is interested in but chances are pretty darn good. Plus, I need to see if I can get the time off of work. I would even take it off without pay. It is basically 8 weeks away. If I busted ass I could be down 20 more lbs. for the cruise. It would be 2.5 lbs. per week. Steep but achievable right? Until next time...
Well today would be my normal weigh day but I have decided to forgo weighing in this week. I forgot to take my meds yesterday, TOM is in town and with the move and all I will just wait until next week.
My mom and I went to Fish Market but I didn't eat much. We found out that her MRI showed signs of Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIA) or mini-strokes. This would be one of the reasons why she is having memory issues. She had a triple bypass and valve repair two years ago and my assumption is that they occurred during that time. That is when I started noticing behavior changes. Dr. G is going to call her today with more details. She also wants to know if it is okay to travel so she can book our cruise to the Mexican Riviera. *Big Sigh*

No screen shot from Sunday since I did not wear my bugg over the weekend. I really need to get a grip and just keep it on over the weekend. Eventually I will be able to log food at home (CALL APEX) but in the meantime I can still track calories burned and keep tabs on food intake. I did get some packing in on Saturday but did not do diddly squat yesterday but sit around and watch football and hang out with my friends. I am the eternal procrastinator but it isn't like I am moving a huge amount of stuff either. Big sigh... I made it through the day without drinking beer which was good! I did have two Bloody Mary's though and that was it alcohol wise.I was thinking about going to the gym tonight and then get Dave for a little while. We will see what happens. All I know is I need to drink a lot of water today because I am feeling bloated from too much salt. Until next time...

My plan for today is to get started on the closet. Dave will be able to help me this afternoon and we have also scheduled a walk and a good dinner so it is going to be a good day but I can't help but be stressed about it. I have to remind myself that in one more week I will be in a new place with lots more room, cheaper rent, next to one of my best friends and by the park. Focus on the prize Katie... Focus on the prize.
My brother emailed us and he is coming for Thanksgiving. He has a friend that is getting married that weekend so he is flying in Wednesday. We will go to a restaurant T.B.D. Bob has found out through allergy testing that he is allergic to turkey, peanuts and a myriad of other items. I don't like turkey so mom and I have chosen restaurants that have other items available on their menus. Two years in a row I had Salmon with a raspberry glaze with asparagus and mashed potatoes. We shall see what we come up with this year. My mom will be glad to have her baby boy here (He's 48!)
Hope you are having a good weekend! Until next time...
P.S. Holy Cow I have 162 followers! That blows my mind people! I have as many followers as pounds I need to lose ;-)

I have been winging it lately. I haven't gone grocery shopping (for home) in over a week. Last night I had some black beans with salsa when I got home and then picked up Dave and got a Chicken sandwich at Jacque Le Cube (Jack in the box) It tasted good but it was 720 cals! That is not good.I really need to refocus my efforts. I don't want to unravel all the hard work I have done. I need to learn to make adjustments when faced with stressful situations and decide that the little extra effort in planning properly will benefit me more then hinder me.
I have a store credit at Kohl's so I think I will do some retail therapy at lunch time today. I would like to find some work pants. I seem to have casual wear in smaller sizes but not business attire. If I don't find something at lunch I will go this weekend to give myself a break from packing. Until next time...

Well I ate crappy last night hence the low deficit. Had cheese pizza for dinner and it wasn't enough so I made a Quesadilla and I still wasn't satisfied so I had some toast. Blergh... I suppose I should be happy I had a deficit at all. I have a lot of things to do tonight and hoping to get them all done. Need to go work on my mom's computer but I am hoping to do that at lunch time. Fortunately she only lives about 6 miles from my work (12 miles from my apt.) so going back and forth isn't too bad. Hoping today goes by quickly and painlessly! Until next time...

Got on the scale this morning and I am down 1 lb. to 264. I am okay with it and didn't expect much more but it I have seen this number before. I want to break out of the 260s!
Did not meet with the new apt. manager. He rescheduled until tonight. Now it sounds like I won't be able to start moving stuff until next week. Breathe Katie... breathe... I am trying really hard not to agonize but I feel so scattered right now.
Laurie posted this little exercise (For today...) and I liked it so much I thought I would share it with you. Feel free to pass it on...
Outside my window... the sky is cloudy
I am thinking… I have a lot of stuff to do in the next 10 days
I am thankful for… all the wonderful blessings in my life
In my kitchen… the cupboards are pretty bare
I am wearing… brown pants, brown and blue top and brown shoes
I am creating… my new and improved future
I am going… crazy want to come along?
I am reading… Thin is the New Happy by Valerie Frankel
I am hoping… to be at goal weight by next summer
I am hearing… Sweet Home Alabama by Lynard Skynard
Around the house… are a bunch of boxes driving me nuts
One of my favorite things right now… sleeping in
A few plans for the weekend… packing like a mad dog
A picture to share… This is from one of my favorite places in the world. It is The Venetian Hotel in Capitola which is near Santa Cruz, California.
Until next time...

Going to get the keys for the new apt. after work tonight. They mentioned it wasn't quite ready but I would just like to be ready when they say "Go" to start bringing things over there. I am trying not to agonize over all of this but this too shall pass. Until next time...

- Quiet, solitude
- Appreciating nature
- Loving others unselfishly
- Listening to others
- Sharing your feelings
- Remembering, reflecting
- Keep a journal
- Forgiving others
- Attending a church
- Praising others
- Walking, exercising
- Smiling, laughing
- Reading, learning
- Helping others
- Sharing experiences
- Asking for forgiveness
- Embracing loved ones
I have been able to incorporate most of the tasks into my life but I am working on forgiving others and forgiving myself. I am also finding meditation and quiet solitude really help my stress level.
Slept in yesterday and went to a baby shower in the afternoon. Did well on food but did have a piece of cake. Scraped the frosting off though. Didn't get any packing done but I will be hammering it out during the week and Dave will be able to help me. I am hoping to purge more stuff while I am in the process. Deb and I decided it would be too much to do a Garage sale this month but I will have everything put aside and ready to go when we decide to do it. Thankfully there is lots of storage in the new apt. Until next time...

Met my mom for brunch and did some stuff with her. Then had dinner out with Danielle and Judy. Did good on food. Probably 1500 cals. I was able to get some packing in and I took down all my pictures. Here comes living in limboland as I call it. Living amongst boxes and it being a studio to boot it is making it a little cramped. Oh well... it won't be much longer and I am hoping to do the walk-through next week so I can start moving stuff over. I am pretty beat so I am going to sleep in tomorrow. Until next time...

I went to the Senior center and they said I need to get "approved" since I am not 50. I will call the lady today and see what she says. It would be a bonus but I do have a gym membership and my gym has a pool, it's just that I would be less embarrased swimming at the Center vs. the gym.My plan for the weekend is packing. My mom does want me to come over Saturday but I am going to have to limit my time with her because I only have two more weeks to get organized. I just started packing up some boxes last night. Change is good... change is good... Hope you all have a great day today and a great weekend.
Side note: Dave had a great idea that I think I am going to use. He suggested that I not drink any beer between now and Christmas (Mexico?) I went 7 months without it so 2 months should be a breeze. If I do desire an adult libation I can always have a glass of red wine. Until next time...

- I don’t know what nationality I am. I was adopted and my birth certificate says I am from Betty and Ed J not my birth parent(s) All I know is that I am classified as White Non- Hispanic in demographic terms.
- I was a big time trouble maker in my youth. I have mended my fiendish ways but I was quite the rebel.
- I like birds of all kinds but I don’t like crows. I think they are evil and noisy. If I could legally shoot them I would.
- Sometimes I wonder if I see a lady that looks like me that she might be my birth mother. Since I live within a 15 mile radius of where I was born it is feasible that she could still live in the area. It has happened on numerous occasions.
- I don’t like Hot Dogs or Bologna. It freaks me out to think of what goes in them.
- When I was a baby, I lived in Foster Care for 6 months for my birth mother to decide if she wanted to keep me. The foster parents named me “May” but when I came home to Betty and Ed they named me after their mothers. Katherine was my mom's mom and Sophia Ann was my Dad's mom. I am now Katherine Ann but go by Katie J or Kate.
Now to name 6 bloggers to pass it on to:
- Diane at Fit to the Finish
- Bonnie at No More Stinking Thinking
- Dawn at Fixing Myself Thinner
- Sunny at Welcome to the Sunny Side of Life
- Ang at Getting Fit after 40
- Amy H. at No to the Deuce
Thanks for reading my 6 things and thanks again Hadley! Love ya girl!
Ended up going to the Outback for dinner. Had the Ahi Tuna as my entree and a salad and baked potato. Had a good deficit yesterday. Tried to drink lots of water. I went to bed before 9:00 p.m. because I had to be up at 5:30 a.m. to get Deb and Larry to the Airport.
I got on the scale this morning and I was down 4 lbs. from yesterday whew. I really appreciate all your comments yesterday. Some made me smile and one made me cry. It was just a bad day all the way around but thankfully today is a new day.
Planning on going to the Senior Center after work to submit my application. I am not a Senior but since I have a chronic condition (Diabetic) I can use their facilities which are less then a year old. They have two pools and state of the art exercise equipment. It is across the street from my new apt. Which also reminds me I need to get blood work done to check my sugar levels (Hba1c). I am hoping to eliminate the insulin by next spring and this will be a good indicator if that is possible. Until next time...

Lynn over at Actual Scale mentioned this DVD and it sounded intriguing so I ordered it on eBay for $14. Here is the description from Amazon:
Burn calories, work up a sweat and tone muscles you never knew you had!
Join Dolphina in an exhilarating cardiovascular bellydance workout (beneficial to people of all fitness and dance levels) that sculpts, defines and strengthens your core. Experience the freedom and joy of bellydance while raising your heart rate and getting a full body workout.
DVD EXTRAS: Bonus Performance by Dolphina "How to Create Bellydance Costumes" - Dolphina demonstrates how you can create simple costumes with a hip scarf or coin belt and how to select an elaborate ensemble to impress an audience.
Dolphina, "Bellydancer to the Stars," has personally introduced The Goddess Workout to Jessica Alba, Pamela Anderson, Salma Hayek and Heather Locklear. A certified yoga and fitness instructor, she has been featured on hundreds of TV shows and magazines and teaches filled-to-capacity bellydance and burlesque classes.
I really enjoyed it! I was able to catch on pretty quickly. She explains things really well and is also encouraging. I like the fact that she promotes positive body image regardless of your size and encourages embracing your curves. I could definitely feel the muscles being used and my heart rate was up especially doing the camel which is one of the main moves. I need to work on that one for sure. I encourage anyone to try belly dancing and bring out your inner Goddess!
Have a great Sunday everyone! Until next time...

Went to see my mom today. We always say we are going to work on her office and we end up going to brunch and then shopping or movies or whatever. We ended up going to Nordstrom Rack and Sears. I got a pink top with sparkles from Nordies and a Halloween shirt and purple blouse for work at Sears. They are 22s so they probably won't fit long but I needed something new and they were inexpensive ($15 and less) and yes I will take pictures. I need to update my progress pictures anyways :-)
My mom has decided she would like for us to go on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera for Christmas! We have been on this cruise before (2001) which goes to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas but the last time we went the ports were in the opposite order. She is getting an MRI per Dr. G on Tuesday and wants to know the results of that before she books it so it is not confirmed but I can't help but get excited about it. I would love to drop another 20 lbs. by then. It is from Dec. 19th - Dec. 26th. My Bodybugg is set for me to lose 17 lbs. by the 27th of December so I could feasablly lose 3 more lbs. right? It is 10 weeks from today so it would be 2 lbs. per week. The cruise to Alaska proved to be a big motivator. I wanted to lose 40 lbs. by the cruise (July '09) but I was able to lose 45!
Hope you all are having a good weekend. Until next time...

Another uneventful evening. I am big fan of Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice so I was glued to the t.v. for last nights episodes. I had forgotten to bring home the Bellydancing DVD so I will do that this weekend.
A few readers have asked how I feel about my Bodybugg so I have decided to write a review for it. Here is the info from their website on how it works:
The bodybugg® is the most accurate device on the market today for measuring calorie expenditure outside of a clinical setting.
It utilizes a patented process for interpreting calorie burn called "sensor fusion" developed by BodyMedia, Inc. This process involves collecting a range of body-data using multiple physiological sensors instead of a single sensor, which is what other calorie estimation devices such as pedometers and heart rate monitors rely on. It's this multi-sensor approach that enables bodybugg® to "see" the wearer's context (whether they are sitting, sleeping, jogging, walking, etc.) that makes bodybugg® such a reliably accurate device for calorie expenditure estimation.
The Physiological Sensors
Here is a list of the sensors in the bodybugg® followed by a short description of how they contribute to energy expenditure estimation.
- Accelerometer - The accelerometer in bodybugg® is a tri-axis micro-electro-mechanical sensor (MEMS) device that measures motion. This motion can be mapped to forces (g-force) exerted on the body. By taking gravity and motion into account along with the other sensor data, the wearer's body context and true level of physical exertion can be accurately predicted.
- Heat Flux - The bodybugg® also contains a proprietary heat flux sensor located on the side that measures the amount of heat being dissipated by the body via a thermally resistant material. In short, this sensor measures how much heat the wearer's body is giving off. Heat flux is an important parameter because the body tends to heat up the faster it burns calories.
- Galvanic Skin Response - Better known as GSR, this sensor is comprised of two "hypo-allergenic" stainless steel electrodes on the back of the armband that measure skin conductivity. Skin conductivity is how much an electrical current can pass between two points on the surface of the skin and is affected by sweat due to physical exertion as well as emotional stimuli such as psychological stress.
- Skin Temperature - Skin temperature is measured by using a highly accurate thermistor-based sensor located on the back of the bodybugg®. Looking at continuous measurement of skin temperature in conjunction with data collected from the other sensors can reveal the body's core temperature trends which are affected by the level of a person's physical exertion or lack thereof.
The data these 4 sensors collect, in conjunction with the wearer's specific body parameters (age, gender, height, weight) enable the most accurate estimation of energy expenditure on the market today outside of a clinical setting.
My bodybugg is the older model. It does require batteries whereas the newer model is charged on your computer. I have to replace the batteries about once every 10-14 days. It is also thicker then the newer model but otherwise its pretty much the same.
I also have the digital display. It provides an "on-the-go" snapshot of my numbers for the day. It shows the daily info that I post on my screenshots. It also gives you little alerts when you have achieved your goals. I must say it is pretty motivating to hear the little "beep beep beep" It is like a mini cheerleader!
The bodybugg tracks Calories burned, Number of steps taken and Physical activity. The data is uploaded via a USB cord to the program. I input the calories that I consume. Then it gives you the difference or the deficit you have for that day. When setting up the program you put in all your personal data and set up a program based on what you want to do. For example, I have mine set up for me to lose 1.5 lbs. per week. If I achieve the daily target deficit I should be able to lose that based on the bugg. My target deficit is 750 calories right now.
The deterrent for most people is the cost. If I had to go out and buy one I would be hesitant too. Mine was a gift from my coworker Nicole. The bugg costs $200 and the display costs $100. You also have to pay for the monthly subscription to use the database. The first 6 months it is covered and it is about $9.95 per month thereafter. By the way you can purchase just the calorie counting portion even if you don't have a bugg. There is also a very similar product call the "Go Wear Fit" which apparently is less expensive but pretty darn similar. It is made by Apex as well. You can also find bodybuggs and Go Wears cheaper on Craig's list or eBay.
I totally love my bugg!!! I have used it for 10 months now and have been able to lose the 1.5 lbs. per week pretty consecutively. My goal by year end is to lose 68 lbs. according to my current program. The best feature to me is all the data it provides. I am such a visual learner and this puts it into perspective for me. I know what I need to do. It has bar graphs, pie charts and line graphs to show all the information. I do not count calories but I track them. The only negatives about the bugg is that it does show up under my clothes sometimes. If I am going to dress up for the evening I generally won't wear it but I do wear it at work every day all day unless I forget to put it on. Also having short sleeved shirts doesn't really work. The other disadvantage is the batteries. It takes just one AAA battery.
I am so happy it is Friday! Looking forward to having a motivated weekend. No more slug bug darn it! Until next time...

Nothing exciting about yesterday. I went home from work and dinked around on my computer and had a sandwich for dinner. I fell asleep at 8:00 p.m. and woke up a little before 7:00 a.m. this morning. Guess I needed the extra sleep! I will be happy when this stupid cold goes away.
I have a dilemma as of late which is a good and bad thing. My work clothes are really loose. They are literally hanging off me. I don't have the money right now to go and buy anything new (moving) so I guess I will pick a few things and have them altered. I will also try to find something at the Thrift store to supplement as well. I just feel so slouchy and matronly but then I try to focus on the goal and it makes me feel a little better.
Nicole is moving this weekend and is going to give me her boxes when she is done so that will really help out. I haven't started packing yet but I should be getting the keys to the new place early next week. I figure I can do a lot of the small stuff ahead of time and then at the end of the month just move the big stuff. I am trying not to agonize about it. Change is good... change is good.
In my post tomorrow, I will be reviewing the Bodybugg. I have had a number of readers ask about it so I thought I should write a review. I also got Cardio Bellydancing by Dolphina on DVD so I am hoping to do that tonight and review it as well. Until next time...
