Dropping Bombs

Camelia
How are you guys this morning? I am doing okay. Thank you for the expression of sympathy about my Auntie Dottie. I just hope I can make a difference in peoples lives like she and my dad did.

Yesterday I did not eat much. I had a cereal bar with yogurt and string cheese in the morning and then did not eat again until dinner time. Dave is staying with me this week as he has appts. on this side of the hill. We made tri-tip and had salad and garlic toast. I don't know why I keep doing that but I need to go back to eating smaller amounts more frequently. Especially for evening out my blood sugar. Fail to Plan = Plan to Fail

So, without disclosing the details, I had someone drop a bomb on me via text message.  It made me think how technology has changed the way we communicate and I am not sure I dig it. This is not the 1st time this person did it to me but I am still surprised. I have found out on Facebook that someone has died. While it has it's advantages as far as being able to spread the word widely and quickly I am not sure if that is really the right venue to announce something like that? What do you think? Until next time...

P.S. Just found the funeral information for my Auntie on FB!!! Grrrrrrrrrr!!!

  1. Hang in there, love.

As for the technology thing...yea...I think the "big things" should be saved for face-to-face talks.

  2. I hope you are feeling a little better....and i hope that there is sunshine around you. A day with sunshine always makes me feel a little better.

I guess i'm old fashioned....geeze, i never thought i'd say that! If there is big news to be shared, if it can't be done in person, a phone call needs to be made. No death, marriage, divorce, etc needs to be announced on fb or text messaged. The only thing that i think is kinda fun is when a friend has a baby and there are updates posted! I love that....not everyone can be there for those kind of moments and i love the phots and updates!

  5. Social media can be a blessing (as per my post on Monday) and a curse (as per learning sensitive information online first). I suppose for me it would upset me, or not, depending on who it was that died. But here's a quirk of mine: when it's your birthday people jump all over Facebook to say happy birthday. I think that's great especially for virtual friendships or long distance friends even. But what makes me a bit sad is that I no longer get birthday cards from people who used to send them. So that's what I mean by blessing and/or curse.

  6. I'm with Helen, its a blessing and a curse. And I think we all rely on technology a bit too much. It's the way of the world though, and I'm not sure, other than moving to a cave, how to change it.
    Have a great Tuesday.

  7. Things sure have changed with how you hear about stuff...not sure if I always like seeing it online, but I guess this is our world now.

  8. I'm on FB, but I never post a status and would never share personal info on my page. That's just me though. I know friends who have and it has worked out for them. Then there are others who I just block from my feed because they are freaking annoying. I mean, do I care that you did a load of laundry and are now watching Maury? Nope!

  9. Yep, I think some people use social media in the wrong ways - so sorry to hear about your Aunt - and that she was a caretaker at her age!

Sending big hugs your way. :D
