Friday and Fwends

Woot! Woot! We made it to Friday! Best darn day of the work week! Last night I did a laundry marathon. I did 5 loads and put them all away. What a project! I should not wait until it piles up like that. I still have 3 more loads to do which includes the bedding. How often do you guys change your sheets? I do it once a week most weeks. Sometimes I wait a little longer since I am the only one sleeping on them currently

I have mentioned a gazillion times how much of a Tarjay fan I am. Did you know they now have a debit card? It links directly to your checking account and deducts it from there. It offers a 5% discount on most items and is discounted with each transaction not rewards that are to be claimed at a later date. It does not carry a balance so there are no credit pitfalls. If you want to apply for it you can go online here or you can apply directly at the register. All you need is ID and a cancelled check.

So yesterday, I was out in the back of our building taking a break smoking a cigarette and I spotted this little guy. He had the neatest pattern on his fur. I am not sure why his little head is bent like that but he was very cute to watch. I did not zoom in at all, he was really that close.

Dave is coming over this weekend. The house where he is staying is up in the mountains and they are having some major plumbing problems so he and his friend will be staying over the hill while it is being worked on. He always helps me with household stuff so that will be good. Plus, I like cooking for both of us vs. just me. I will be going to the gym at some point and I may go visit my mom. Not sure about that though. Until next time...

Lost and List

First things first, I lost 2 lbs. this week. I am at 253. I did see the scale go lower then that during the week but that is fine with me. I am feeling good albeit a little sore but I am encouraged again to see the scale moving. I've been hovering here for far too long! The lowest I have been on this journey is 248.

One of the original blogs I started reading was Cranky Fitness written by Crabby McSlacker. She is a Life Coach and has a wicked sense of humor. She put together a list of 2012 Top Weight Loss Blogs and I am humbled that someone even nominated me. There are some familiar names on the list and a whole bunch of new ones I have not seen before. I am always looking to add new blogs to read to my list. Go check it out when you have a chance.

I have a random fashion question. If you are wearing navy blue dress pants and you have a choice of brown or black shoes to go with it, which ones would you wear? My workplace has a very strict dress code which includes shoes we can wear. We must have closed toe and closed heels so no mules or sling backs. I have a great pair of navy slingbacks but can't wear them here. I'm interested to hear what you think! Until next time...

Workout Wednesday Giveaway!

Did not go to the mall with Danielle nor did I do much decluttering last night. I was just worn out and did not feel like doing much.  I did get a little munchy with some graham bunnies but caught myself before I did any major damage.  Tonight I am working out with Tim, the Personal Trainer, right after work. Our next appt. is not until next Monday so I promised him that I would come in on my own before Monday. I have been entertaining the thought of doing a class so I may do that. I even ordered a gel seat for spinning class (no ouchie girly bits) so we will see.

Since I have quite a few workout DVDs and Wii Games, I have decided to give away the Biggest Loser 30 Day Jump Start DVD that I received from Progresso and Blogspark.

All you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite way to work out? I think my favorite is actually riding my bike and I also like using the rowing machine. For an additional entry, you can post about the giveaway on Twitter. I will also add an entry if you have never commented on my blog before. I will announce a winner on Monday, April 2nd. Until next time...

P.S. Please remember to leave info so I can get a hold of you if you win.

1,000th Post

Yes, this is actually my 1,000th. I guess I have a lot to say LOL! I made a commitment to myself to journal this journey and I have stuck with it so I am proud of that. It has really come in handy when I was trying to remember a timeline when something happened, I can just look back in my blog :-) It has saved me more then once.

Went to Personal Training yesterday as scheduled. I am not a fan of Monday's (is anyone?) but that was basically the time that worked for his schedule. I worked through it though and it was a good start to the week. My next appointment is tomorrow. I am pretty sore today but it is tolerable.  One thing we talked about yesterday was food/calories etc. I told him my target calories are 1,400-1,500. He thinks I am not eating enough calories! He wants me to send him 3 days of my foods logged and he will assess it. It will be interesting to see what his feedback is. Meanwhile... the scale is moving again and in the right direction! I will post my weight on Thursday.

Some of the long time readers may remember Julia who used to blog at Jewlia Goulia. She lost a whopping 160 lbs. She is a photographer (graduates in May) and did an award winning series of photos showing the aftermath of her weight loss on her body. Well, CNN Health featured her story on Friday and I thought I would share the link so some of the newer readers can check it out. It is graphic so if you are at work or around small children, you may want to wait to view it. Her website also features some of her other work and is definitely worth checking out.

I had a nice NSV (non-scale victory) this morning, I was able to wear a blouse that I have only worn once but have owned it for quite a few years. One thing I forgot about wearing this top is the sequins - they are chafing on my arms. I put a sweater over it and it seems to help but it is nice to add a new top to the mix.

Tonight I may go to the mall with Danielle. She wants to check out the Mac counter and I want to get my necklace cleaned (Tiffany's) and I have a Groupon I want to use at The Body Shop If we don't go then I will be working on some decluttering. We shall see. Until next time...

I Am Strong!!!

How are you all doing? Did you have a good weekend? I had a great one actually. Best one in a long time!

Last Friday, I took off of work to get some personal business done. First, I went to San Mateo County to pick up Bruce's personal property. It was an adventure let me tell you! I got lost and stuck driving on the San Mateo bridge which is a really looooong bridge. I did not have cash on me (or so I thought) and they are going to send me an IOU for the bridge toll. I finally got there about a 1/2 hour late. The exchange was pretty gritty. I am disgusted in how the whole thing has been handled and I let her know that. She felt pretty cornered and she got defensive. I told her it not all of it was her responsibility but she has been handling the case for the last 5 months and she hasn't done much of anything. I am even considering going to the media because they don't know about the thefts within the DA's office and the citing for negligence of BLTC which is a county run facility. It remains to be seen...

I also got my car registered and the title changed over finally. My mom gave me the car last June! What a slackalacker I am - sheesh. It felt so good to get that done.  I have AAA and they have a DMV counter there so it totally beats going to the DMV. No long waits or hassles.

So after I got all my personal stuff done, I had a PT appt. at the gym. The appt. went well but the only bad thing was I had not eaten much all day and was a little spacey when I got there but we managed through. I also had an appt yesterday. It went well and at one point I actually cried. I was doing some plank push ups on the Bosu ball and it was really hard but I pushed through and when I finished the last one I actually cried because I pushed through and did it. Tim was cute and actually hugged me. I was super sweaty but he did not care. Awww...

After the gym, I met Bob and Betty for lunch. We had a nice lunch and when we got back to the house, Bob asked me if I could crack his back. He is 6'2" and I am 5'2" but I tried it anyways. I was able to lift him up and after I asked him "So how much do you weigh?" and he said 215 lbs. Holy shmoley! I can lift 215 lbs. I am strong! I actually always have been pretty strong but I kinda forgot somewhere along the way but I am fully embracing it now and will use it to help propel me to my goal(s) Until next time...

What is a Workout?

A workout is 25 percent perspiration and 75 percent determination. Stated another way, it is one part physical exertion and three parts self-discipline. Doing it is easy once you get started. A workout makes you better today than you were yesterday. It strengthens the body, relaxes the mind, and toughens the spirit. When you work out regularly your problems diminish and your confidence grows. A workout is a personal triumph over laziness and procrastination. It is the badge of a winner – the mark of an organized, goal-oriented person who has taken charge of his, or her, destiny. A workout is a wise use of time and an investment in excellence. It is a way of preparing for life’s challenges and proving to yourself that you have what it takes to do what is necessary. A workout is a key that helps unlock the door to opportunity and success. Hidden within each of us is an extraordinary force. Physical and mental fitness are the triggers that can release it. A workout is a form of rebirth. When you finish a good workout you won’t simply feel better – you feel better about yourself.

**I have posted this before but I thought it was worth another post - It was given to me at the gym years ago**

Gearing Up

How y'all doing today? I am hanging in there.  Since I start Personal Training tomorrow, I am going to say my starting weight is 255 which is what it is today. Tim will be measuring me (eeek!) and it will be interesting to see what changes will happen with the training! The plan is to work with him 2 days per week and then one day on my own. I purchased a total of 10 sessions. Like Shelley said "It's time to break through this stalemate you've been in!" I have been feeling like a bad WL blogger since I have been bouncing around the same 5 lbs. but I really think this is going to kick start my WL again!

I am taking the day off of work tomorrow. I have some personal business to take care of and needed more then just an hour or two to get it done. One of the items on my "To Do list" is to go to the County of San Mateo which is about 40 miles north of where I am. I will be picking up "some" of Bruce's personal effects which includes a small Flat screen TV, a DVD player and an alarm clock. I may never see the watch or any of the other items and I am not holding out for them but I still feel slighted the way it all went down. Ironically, tomorrow is Sandy's birthday (bio-mother). Sandy died in 1996 due to an overdose at the age of 51. Until next time...

Hump Day Happenings

Happy Hump Day! Hope your week is going well. I am hanging in there for the most part. Last night I made a pizza with Boboli crust. I have never made my own pizza! It was fun and tasty! I can't eat any of the pizza meats like sausage or pepperoni (can't digest them) so I always eat just cheese or veggie. For this I used baby bella mushrooms and cheese. Here is a picture:

The serving size for this is 1/2 and is 200 calories for the crust. The possibilities for toppings are endless. They have a ton of recipes on their website like Roasted Asparagus...yummers! I like my crust crispy so I put it in the oven for 8-10 mins directly on the rack at 450 degrees.

Did not get any laundry done so that will be on the agenda tonight. I need to get in some activity too. I will be meeting with Tim on Friday to start up with the Personal Training. I am excited and scared. It was truly an investment in myself though and I am feeling good about it. I probably would have done it before had I known I could make payments but oh well... I am doing it now and taking the steps to get me to my next goal which is to lose 35 lbs. between now and Fitbloggin12 in September. That will put me at the 100 lbs. lost. It would be icing on the cake (no pun intended) to get to Onderland but I will be focusing on losing the 35 lbs. first. That would be about 6 lbs a month or 1.5/week. Totally achievable with determination and diligence. Until next time...

Spring has Sprung!

Happy First Day of Spring ladies and gents! It was officially Spring at 10:08 p.m. PST last night so today is the first official "day" There have been signs of Spring popping up like these camellias. These are right outside my front door :-)

In the city that I live in, they do an annual clean-up where they will take ANYTHING and haul it away for you free of charge. It costs the city millions of dollars to do it every year but it is also benefits the city for beautification as well as fire prevention. In the meantime our town looks crappy with all the stuff on the streets but only lasts a couple of weeks.

Thank you for your feedback on yesterday's post. Each situation is different and it is really hard to generalize. Your comments helped me see a different perspective and I am glad you took the time to say something. That is why I love blogging!

I have been getting more and more comments and compliments about my looks and how I am dressing lately. I think it is because I have been making a concerted effort to accessorize and even wear eye makeup. When I was younger, I used to wear more makeup but got out of the habit and now I am trying again. Here is today's bracelet and the blouse I am wearing it with. I didn't think people paid attention but apparently they do.

I have a mountain of laundry to do tonight. I am still getting used to doing my laundry. After almost 7 years of not having to deal with it is an adjustment. Such is life... Until next time...

Say or Don't Say?

How was your weekend? Did you drink any green beer? I had a decent weekend. Saturday, we had a celebration of life for one of our friends that passed on March 6th. It was good to see so many people there. Seems like sometimes the only time you see certain people are at weddings and funerals. I did not go overboard on food or booze so that was good. I did have a few beers but over the course of a few hours and I walked around quite a bit. It was so crowded that I did spend a lot of time outside. Side note: The poem I posted on Saturday's post was actually printed on his prayer card :-) -- I did not know until after. Here is a pic from Saturday.
Can't Pinch Me!
One of our friends is going to have Gastric bypass surgery on April 4th. I am happy for her but I am also scared for her too. One thing I mentioned to her that after reading blogs of bypass surgery patients and doing lots of research for the last few years was for her to deal with her food addiction to be successful.
She resonded defensively and I regretted saying anything. She said she doesn't eat too much and she does work out 2 hours a day but she is not losing.  I wasn't coming from a judgemental place. I was only saying it as a reality that I too face and need to make peace with.

The other day I was reading a post from Trish and she also has a friend who is in need of losing weight for her health but is in denial. She wondered if she should say anything to this friend for fear of her being angry. Each person will handle it differently I guess but I am THANKFUL I had friends that cared enough about me to say something to me about my weight and the need to lose it or they were fearful I would die. Now I know that sounds dramatic but it was true. Of course I was hurt and embarrassed but I was grateful that they cared enough to say something.

Would you tell a friend that was obese that they needed to lose weight?

Goodbye Big Joe

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

We are having a celebration of life for one of our dear friends today. Cheers brother Joe! We are gonna miss ya man.
May you rest in Peace

B.Y.O.C. Katie J Edition

Thought I would join in and do the BYOC - Bring Your Own Crazy hosted by Drazil over at It's Just Me, Drazil and Sheniqua. Are you following her blog? I absolutely LOVE her and look forward to all her posts. She makes me think and challenges me to dig deep.

1.     How do you feel about college? If you have kids or siblings - will you encourage or require them to go? How long did you go and what for?

I think college is important and it was much more enjoyable then high school for me. I have 2 degrees actually. One is an AA in Business Management and the other is a BS in Business/Marketing. Both degrees were obtained while I was working full time.

2.     Pink or purple? Coke or Pepsi? Pen or pencil? Cursive or printing? Ketchup or mustard?

Pink fo sho!
Coke (ewwww Pepsi!)
Pen and it has to be blue ink (not black)
Printing mostly but I kinda combine both
Neither. I do like honey mustard though.

3.     If you could live in any generation - which one would it be?

60s. Bra burning and free love - lol!

4.     What do you sleep in?

Most of the time I sleep in a night shirt and chonies.  Lately I have been sleeping with warmer pajamas due to the cold but otherwise it is a nightie or night shirt.

5.     Repeat question - summarize your week!

I was glad I went to the training appt. I am just considering doing the 5 or 10 sessions with him. I just need to assess my finances and that I can commit because that is a chunk o' change.

I hope you all have a good weekend. I am going to a celebration of life tomorrow and my mom's on Sunday. It is raining here all weekend so it will be an indoor activity kind of weekend. Until next time...

P.S. Rae Rae - to answer your question, not my type and too young!

Beware The Ides of March

Have you ever heard of the Ides of March? It basically means the middle of the month on the Roman calendar and it is also the day Julius Caeser was killed (44 B.C.) He was stabbed 23 times... that I did not know.

I went to my Personal Training appt. as planned. I got ready 5 mins before I left work so I was ready to jump in. His name is Tim and he is 23 (half my age!) and I really liked him. He was very informed and actually quizzed me on my knowledge of certain things and was impressed that I knew most of what he asked. We did some time on the elliptical to help determine my target heart rate. We also did quite a few lunges and he gave me pointers on proper form. I learned that you are supposed to stretch for a minimum of 30 seconds which I did not know. We are meeting again tomorrow at my lunch hour and he is going to show me a few more things and most likely, I will sign up for future sessions. It is a chunk of change but they will also accept payments which I did not know was an option and then Dave reminded me I could use my tax refund to pay for it. 5 sessions is $375 ($75/hr) and 10 sessions is $720 ($72/hr) They do have a 20 session option but it is $1,300 which is more then my rent so that is not happening!

I told Tim that I wanted to lose 40 lbs. by the end of Septemeber for Fitbloggin and he thought it was totally doable. (1.6 lbs. per week) That would bring me to 100 lbs. lost. He also said he would like to see me on their success wall! I am not sure if he was just saying it as a selling tactic (cynical much?) but he said that I have proven I can be successful and that there is no reason why I couldn't. Hmmm...

Today I am 254. I have skirted posting that because it is a gain of 2 lbs. but in the grand scheme of things it is actually okay. Over the last two weeks it has been up and down so ending up on the lower end of the 250s was a good thing believe it or not. Until next time...

Setting Up for Success

Food was not good yesterday. I am over it... moving on.

Tonight is my Personal Training appt. It is right after work (5:15 pm)  and there will be NO EXCUSES not to go. I have my gym clothes with me and it is on my way home from work. I will most likely get dressed in workout gear before I leave work so I can jump right in when I get there. My objective in getting the PT this time was to set up a sustainable workout that I can build upon as I get stronger. When I go in, I kinda feel at a loss as to what to do so this will help steer me in the right direction.

I wanted to share a success story with you - Her name is Brooke and she blogs over at Pantenegirl I have followed Brooke since the beginning of her journey and I am just so proud of her and happy to see she achieved her goal. She started at 281 and is now 158 for a total loss of 123 lbs! Go check out her blog and say hello if you have a chance. Congratulations Brookie!

Have you guys had trouble commenting lately? Not only are those captchas frustrating but after typing up a long comment to only have it get eaten up or unable to post it is very frustrating. I have never had the word verification on my blog and have never had trouble but maybe others have? Not sure but I really wish they would fix it! Until next time...

Lessons to Learn

Had an alright evening. Did not make an "official" dinner. Just grazed on different things like a salad, nuts and string cheese. I am still adjusting to eating/cooking on my own again. I have been getting better about it but there is lots of room for improvement.

I don't know if I've ever mentioned that I am an Oprah fan. I used to record her shows back in the day (on my VCR!) and when she did her final shows on network TV I watched those and sobbed through all of them. Now I get my Oprah fix on her channel OWN.

There are two shows that I have seen that I really enjoy and one starts in two weeks. The two I have watched are Oprah's Next Chapter and Master Class. Both of them are outstanding in my humble opinion. They do have full episodes online if you do not have access to OWN. This week's Master Class is with Jon Bon Jovi and last week it was Reba. They get personal and tell how they have managed to reach the level of success they have and what they have learned along the way.

The upcoming show is called Oprah's Lifeclass and it starts on Monday, March 26th and runs for 6 consecutive Mondays. From letting go of anger to believing in yourself, look back at some of the greatest lessons Oprah learned during 25 seasons of The Oprah Winfrey Show. There are some great lessons like Letting Go of Anger and You become what you believe. I plan on participating and will let you know how it goes. I will DVR it in case I am not available to watch it. Until next time...

Forward and Fun

Did you guys have a good weekend? Are you feeling lethargic this morning? Studies show that Americans are more sluggish the first few days of the time change as their bodies adjust. There are more car accidents and more heart attacks. Yikes! I personally always look forward to the Spring time change. While it does mean waking up in the dark, it is lighter later and it makes me feel like I can get more done in a day.

I had a good and productive weekend. I played Wii with my friend for 2 hours on Saturday and about the same on Sunday. We played Resort mostly but also did Sports and Just Dance. It was fun and I did not realize we had been doing it that long until we quit and it gave us a summary. The screenshot above said we did the equivalent of walking across Central Park which is approx. 5 miles :-) I also got Trivial Pursuit which is the first non active game I bought. I like it a lot and it can be played single or multiple player.

I was also feeling crafty so in between matches, I made some blank cards. Here are a few of them:

Food wise I did pretty good too. I tried to eat small amounts throughout the day and it seemed to work.  I also went grocery shopping and stocked up on healthy items.  Could this mean I might have my mojo back? Shhhh don't say it too loud otherwise I might jinx myself. Until next time...

P.S. I got the tickets to Dave Matthews Band! :-)

Shadow Days by John Mayer

Did you know that you could be wrong
And swear you're right?
Some people been known
To do it all their lives

But you find yourself alone
Just like you found yourself before
Like I found myself in pieces
On my hotel floor

Hard times help me see

CHORUS
I'm a good man with a good heart
Had a tough time, got a rough start
But I finally learned to let it go
Now I'm right here, and I'm right now
And I'm hoping, knowing somehow
That my shadows days are over
My shadow days are over now

Well I ain't no trouble maker
And I never meant her harm
But it doesn't mean I didn't make it
Hard to carry on
Well it sucks to be honest (honest)
And it hurts to be real
But it nice to make some love
That I can finally feel

Hard times let me be

CHORUS
I'm a good man with a good heart
Had a tough time, got a rough start
And I finally learned to let it go
Now I'm right here, and I'm right now
And I'm hoping, knowing somehow
That my shadows days are over
My shadow days are over now

I'm good man with a good heart
Had a tough time, got a rough start
But I finally learned to let it go
Now I'm right here, and I'm right now
And I'm hoping, knowing somehow
That my shadows days are over
My shadow days are over now

Fanciful Friday

Yesterday was a decent day. I managed okay with food and even did a few songs on Just Dance 3. Thank you ladies for commenting yesterday. You are right! I need to cut the bullsh*t and get back to business on this WL journey. My take away from all this is that I can't rely on other people, things or food to make me happy. It needs to come from within. I even stepped on the scale this morning and I am already down a couple pounds so that was encouraging too.

I have been making a point of accessorizing more and wanted to show you what I have been wearing:

It just takes a few minutes to add accessories to my outfits and I am glad that I am finally wearing them. It seems silly to have them just hanging and collecting dust right?

Nothing planned for the weekend. Don't forget to turn you clocks forward on Saturday night unless you're in AZ or HI... It is supposed to be nice so I want to get outside and soak up the sunshine. Who knows, maybe I will even darken the doorway at the gym! Until next time...

P.S. I have always wanted to see Dave Matthews Band and tix go on sale at 10:00 a.m. Wish me luck!

Stuffing Emotions

Source: Goal to get fit
I debated about even posting today. I'm disgusted with myself and how I have been handling things lately. I did not go to the Personal Training appt. yesterday.  I should have never committed to that time because I knew it would not work for me but I had already flailed on him on Sunday. We did reschedule for next Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. which is a perfect time because I am just getting off of work and it is only 2.5 miles from work.

Instead of doing something productive or positive with the extra time, I stuffed my pie hole. I knew what I was doing. It was self-sabotaging and demoralizing. With each bite I felt like I was sinking deeper and deeper. I actually did get on the scale this morning to add insult to injury and I am up about 5 lbs. Some of it is sodium but I have been eating quite a few extra calories so we shall see.

I generally try to look at the positive aspect of things and while this was very counter productive, I did learn from it. It did not make my problems/issues go away. It just made me feel bad. I don't need to take feeling bad and make it worse by stuffing myself. I just need to rise above this and forge ahead.

Willfull Wednesday

After that whole spiel yesterday about Got Fitbit? and here I am without it. It is on my pajama top so at least I know where it is. Eating was crappy again <--- That has to stop right now!!! I will not undo all my hard work. I keep telling myself - Suck it up, Buttercup! I have so many blessings, goals and destinations that this is just a bump in the road.

Today we are having a catered lunch for one of our staff members. It is her 80th Birthday! Her name is Rosemary and I just love her. She is what I call a "Salty Dog" She is a bright, articulate lady who always tells it like it is. I find it charming and we all tell her that we want to be her when we grow up!  She commented one day that she liked a pair of earrings that I was wearing and I had made them so I am giving her a pair. Here is a picture of them:

I ordered the food for the event and we are having the following items:
  • Mediterranean Chicken Breast
  • Tri-tip
  • Grilled Portobello Mushrooms
  • Salad Bar
  • Assorted Fruit
  • Beverages: Sodas and Water

There will be a Birthday cake as well. I plan on having a small piece and will account for it calorie wise.

Tonight is also my Personal Training appt. at 7:00 p.m. Not the ideal time but since I cancelled on him on Sunday I just took whatever he offered. I don't have gym clothes with me so I will need to stop home and I will also need to get something in my belly. I am actually thinking sushi would be good. I need my sushi fix. Hope you all have a good day! Until next time...

Tentative Tuesday

How are you guys doing this morning? I am doing okay so far. I am still congested so I am feeling kinda muddy headed but trying to keep a positive attitude. Food was just okay yesterday. I did not eat much during the day and then made up for it in the evening. Will I ever learn?

I have gotten out of the habit of wearing the fitbit and to help remind me to wear it, I wrote this reminder on my whiteboard by my kitchen. Since the fitbit is small, it is easy to misplace. I have been really lucky and have not lost it but I have found it on my bra numerous times as I am throwing things in the washing machine. That reminds me that when I had the bodybugg, I actually washed it and it survived! Don't want to attempt that with the fitbit...

So remember I planted my Christmas poinsettia so it would grow into a big bush... well it got frost bitten and did not make it.

The spot where I planted it was empty and so I decided to plant some pink cyclamens. It should be fine since we are out of the freezing season. I also planted some seeds in front of the cyclamens so we will see if they sprout. Until next time...

P.S. KC at The Occasional Adventures of a Hermit gave me the Versatile Blogger Award. I will post about it soon. Thanks KC!
