Happy St. Patrick's Weigh!

Did well with food yesterday. I went to watch my friends bowl and managed not to make it a snackfest, thank goodness. I hopped on the scale this morning and got a big old goose egg. I am not surprised given the fact that Chinese food, movie popcorn and pizza were part of last week's menu. I probably would have had a gain had I not exercised over the weekend. Speaking of exercise, I need to make an appt. with a Personal Trainer. 24hr Fitness is having a special offer of 3-50 minute training sessions for $129 so I went ahead and bought them. I thought it would be a great way to get reacquainted with the equipment and to get set up on a routine that I can build upon. Wonder if I should ask for a male or female Trainer... Any feedback?

Nothing planned for this evening. I am not a huge fan of corned beef, cabbage or green beer so most likely Danielle and I will go to Su's Mongolian after she gets off work. I love Su's because you can pick out exactly what you want (meat, veggies and sauces) and they stir-fry it for you. It is all-you-can-eat but I have never gone back for 2nds because it is so good and filling.

Hope you all are having a good week. The sun has been shining here and it has been in the 70s everyday and I am l-o-v-i-n-g it! It is so refreshing and now that it is lighter later it seems I have a better attitude. I think I am affected by SAD more then I realized. Until next time...

  1. Yes, a loss is best but maintaining, in spite of little dietary debauchery isn't a bad thing. :D

You will have a better weight in, next week. :D :D Enjoy your beautiful weather. I am liking mine. :D

  2. Hi KJ -

Boy - no gain beats the hell out of a gain!

I'm more comfortable with a female trainer, but not sure why. I only had a guy once for a one-time session after joining a gym, and it was obvious he was just doing it because it was required. But I know many friends who have male trainers and love 'em! Good for you for taking this step!

  3. Oh I am so jealous of the weather you are getting. It is cold here still and I am so over it. I did the trainer thing at 24 hour fitness twice. Once with a guy and once with a female. Needless to day the guy spent more time looking at the other women then helping. I was pissed. I felt like the female pushed me more...

Have a happy St. Paddy's Day.

  5. For that deal at 24hour... make sure you tell them exactly what you want out of the 3 sessions. My friend bought them and the trainer she had just ran her through a training session without any regard to her current state of health. She's obese and the trainer had her doing things like push-ups on an exercise ball!

If you want to learn about the different machines, make sure to tell them and don't let them just run you through a 'generic' routine.

As far as male or female, I have a male trainer and love it. I'd just go with which ever one you're comfortable with. Let us know how it goes!

  6. St. Patrick's WEIGH. I love it! Although my "weight" is quite a sad event at the moment as I have been wintering on a plateau--and then plunged over the side into a bingey abyss. sigh.

At this point, congrats on not gaining! Happy St. Patty's!

  7. I love that the sun is helping your happy-ness. Me too. Vitamin D. YUM.

Male or female, I've had only male. 24 hour usually made me have a male one. I don't mind much. They didn't expect big emotional breakthroughs, just for me to do the work. I'm emotional-don't get me wrong-just not at the gym. I do think it's worth it regardless. Good luck!

  9. I'll assume that you aren't just trying to get three cheaper workouts going and that this is a prelude to a longer term training program.

Make it clear to 24hour fitness that you don't want to expend the 3 sessions just trying to find someone you like. Gender is irrelevant. Ask to sit down and interview their first suggestion for free without it being an actual session. Get a sense for the kinds of questions they are asking you to see if they are really looking to customize a training program for you. Ask them what the long term approach would be if you went beyond the 3 sessions.

Ask them what their specialty is...perhaps they are into sports specific training and not as much with the kind of body transformations. While most trainers will claim that they'll handle all kinds of clients, there are always preferences. Some really love getting people fit whereas others really love getting fit people to perform at their peak. Very different approaches and you'd want a trainer who is passionate about what you specifically are trying to accomplish.

Enjoy! It is addicting to have a PT, I know.

  10. Yea for having a trainer! I had a male trainer. At first I had inhibitions, but I stuck with it and I'm glad. He pushed me, and soon I really didn't worry about the fact that he's hot and I was a sweaty pig!

  12. Nice job not snacking at bowling! That is always hard, especially when everyone around you is eating.

As for the trainer, I don't know...you can get a bad one either way. Be sure and ask lots of questions and clarify what you are doing and why. I hope you get somebody good and really get motivated to use the machines!

  16. Having SAD sucks! But we are getting some light up here too and some sun which is great. Spring is giving us a little teaser it seems. And I am just gonna say congrats on the goose egg. Better than a gain anyday!

  18. The key to exercise is making it a permanent routine, then the results are guaranteed. You're doing it right.
