Rant, Rave and Random

How are you on this December morning? I am doing pretty good. Last night was pretty much a bust though. I had a chicken sandwich and onion rings for dinner. The onion rings tasted good but blechhhh the after effects are yucky (I will spare you the details) I forgot my bugg at home today so no screen shot.

I will start with my rant. First of all, I am grateful I have health insurance BUT I was trying to make an appt. for my out of control eczema and it took me 3 emails and 3 phone calls to do so. On what planet is that a productive use of resources?? When I spoke to them the first time the soonest they could get me in was February! Ummm NOT acceptable! When all was said and done I was able to get an appt. on 12/23/10 at 9:00 a.m.

My rave is that I won a CSN Store giveaway from Dawn at Fixing Myself Thinner and that was a great start to my day! I hosted a CSN giveaway so I know what cool items they have! Merry Christmas to me! LOL! I will most likely get a loaf pan and a 10" skillet. We shall see and I will let you know :-)

So my random is this: When I started losing weight in February '09 I was busting out of 26/28s and had even started to wear some 30/32s. So when I lost a substantial amount, my clothes were no longer fitting so I went to the outlets and stocked up on pants since I dress professionally for work. Well, one would think that I would be thrilled to wear the smaller sizes and show my progress to the world but I am still wearing the bigger clothes. In fact, today I have on Size 26 pants. I am a 22 now.  According to Stacy and Clinton on WNTW one should wear clothes that fit and that wearing baggy clothes make you look slouchy and larger. So, why am I still wearing/keeping my slouchy pants? There are some things that I have had to ditch because they were too big so why am I holding out with the pants. Hmmmm... What I should really do is pack up the "too big" stuff and give it away/donate it so I won't be tempted. I am on odd bird aren't I? No, you don't have to answer that! Until next time...

  1. I can relate to the baggy clothes thing, but its something my husband actually pointed out to me. I was with him and had to buy a t-shirt one weekend. I grabbed an XL in Old Navy, in a color I liked and headed toward the register--he called me back and told me to buy the friggin Medium. I thought he was nuts, but it fit. Fit a little closely, but, it fit!
I think its partly some kind of body dismorphic thing, and partly that we feel safer all covered up!

  2. I can relate to the baggy clothes too. I think it's just a comfort thing. When I lost fifty pounds last year, I gave away all of my bigger clothes, except a pair of too-big pajamas. I still have those. LOL

  3. Glad you won Katie *hugs*. I too am one that always went for the bigger clothes. But I'm trying to change that about myself. I think it just takes time. Like Ariel said we are use to trying to cover up. I say get rid of the big bring in the small *smile*.

  4. You are right -- wearing clothes that fit a little closer to the body will make you slimmer. It's hard to feel comfortable doing it at first, but I am glad I made the leap. It also keeps you honest -- you'll notice even the slightest variations in your waistline if your pants fit closer to the body.

  5. I kept one pair of "baggy" pants to see my changes... but the rest I donated!! I didn't want to get in the frame of mind "look at how much room I have, I can totally eat four more pieces of.......blah..." Ya know!!! Good for you and dropping all the pounds!! now drop the clothes off, they are probably already falling off you!! ;)

  6. I saw that you won early this morning - congratulations, how fun!!!

Um, get rid of the baggy pants asap. I found that wearing clothes that fit as I lost weight kept me more motivated...I didn't slip back into feeling "fat" like I did when my clothes were too baggy. And listen to Stacy and Clinton - they are right! :)

  7. congrats on the win! :D

I wore my baggies for way too long. I finally quit when my clothes were just hanging on me. Really, I looked bizarre.

I can't tell you the number of times I'd try on clothes, look in the mirror and not be able to decide if they were too big or not. Now, I'm talking about a size 48 top when I wore an 42. Couldn't tell if it was too big. Okay, then.

    No, Katie, you are obviously not alone. :}

And--thank you for your comment on my blog! It made me chuckle--and NOD!

  11. I did the baggy clothes thing for a long time. It was a comfort thing and also a failure in believing in myself that this change was real and long lasting. It wasn't until I started walking on the bottom of my pants that I got some new ones and ditched the old ones. It is okay to let them go. And you will feel slimmer and a bit sexier in clothes that fit.

I will admit that I am an odd bird too.

  12. I agree with Kimberly. I think we keep our "big" clothes out of fear we will need to "slip" back into them again sometime, kind of a safety net. If we get rid of them, they are gone and we only have what we have. Kind of a built in accountability. Getting rid of the old clothes is big time commitment to a knew lifestyle.
