47 + A Dilemma

Still in slacker mode. I went to Danielle's and had a great dinner and some yummy wine. Deficit would have been better less the wine but did okay. I got on the scale this morning and I am down 1.5 lbs. for a total of 47 lbs! Woowoo!! I am so close to 50 lbs. I can taste it! Call me a weirdo but when saying you lost weight it sounds better to say 50 then 40... Anyways, I have been having a dilemma with clothes. First of all, I have lots of clothes. What puzzles me is the difference in fit from one item to the next. When I started this journey I was wearing 28s and they were just barely fitting and now I am wearing 24s comfortably. But there are still 28s or 3x items that are still too small. Then there is the need to get smaller items to supplement my wardrobe as I continue to lose more. Money is an issue. I can't afford to buy very much. Hopefully I will earn some cash with the Garage sale so I can get a few things. I have had offers from two ladies that have lost weight and they are expensive designer clothes but I am not there yet (1X or 20s.) The best news is that I have a friend named Scott who said that when I lose 100 lbs. he will give me $100 towards new clothes. He has told other friends and local business owners and now the kitty is up to $700!! I am so touched that they care that much about me and what a field day that will be! I am hoping to be there around February or so, so we shall see. I don't have any plans this weekend except to get organized and hopefully get my arse to the gym at some point. Hope you all have a great weekend. Until next time...

Bye Bye July

Nothing exciting to report about yesterday. Glad to see a nice deficit. I am still getting back in the swing of things. I still haven't even brought in my suitcase from my trunk because I haven't been home other then to sleep and shower. Can we say slacker?!? I was shooting for going to the gym tonight but I don't see that happening. I will probably do a workout video at home and just focus on laundry. Does anyone want the book Half Assed by Jennette Fulda? It is about a young woman who loses over 200 lbs. It is a quick and enjoyable read for sure. Until next time...

Mush Brain

I exceeded my target calories because of beer. I am thankful there even was a deficit! On the ship they did not have Corona which I was bummed about so I made up for the last 7 months of not drinking it. Back to my wine... I was reading some old posts and there seems to be a common thread about exercising. While I am way more active then I was 45 lbs. ago, I need to really kick up the activity. I keep talking about it but NOT doing it and I need to stop that cycle right NOW. Tonight is my standing dinner with Mom at the Fish Market so tomorrow I want to go to the gym and then clean up some of the chaos in my apt. Debby is going to have a Garage Sale soon (Aug 8th) so this is the perfect time to purge some of my larger clothes and other junk I mean stuff I have. That is what I hope to do this weekend. Until next time...

Getting back to business

Well I am back to work today and wearing my bugg for the first time in awhile. I did not wear my Bodybugg on the cruise. I figured I could take a break from it for a week since I have been using it for the last 7 months. I posted the pictures if you would like to take a look at them. I am playing catch up today at work. The good news for the day is that I got on the scale and I didn't gain any weight on the cruise! I am so proud of myself that I made good choices with food and I did not feel cheated because I had desserts and treats but in moderation. I know thin people who have gone on cruises and came back with a weight gain so I am WAY happy. By the way, I did not quit smoking. I did not smoke on the cruise but have been since coming back. Also, while I was gone I read the book Half Assed by Jenette Fulda. It was a great book and if anyone is interested in reading it let me know and I will mail it to you. I just ordered Confessions of a Carb Queen by Susan Blech as well. I will send that one on too when I am done.

I will post more soon but until next time...

Back to Reality

I ended up being sick this morning and did not go to work. I slept most of the day. I feel better tonight but whew it was bad. Anyhoo... I will post pics of the trip tomorrow. I took some really nice pictures and I also journaled each day of the trip so I need to get my notes together. It will be a nice way to remember for me and my mom. She has been having memory issues which is a whole other post in itself but until next time...

New Decade and New Adventures

I didn't eat much yesterday. The service was nice and it was so good to see Dave. I just wish it hadn't been under those circumstances. After I get back from the cruise he will be able to visit me. I am looking forward to that. I miss him a lot. Meanwhile, I got on the scale this morning and I am down 2.5 lbs. for a total of 45.5 lbs. That means I am in the 260s! By a hair but still there! I am thrilled that I surpassed my original goal of 40 by the cruise and I plan to keep on rocking. I am on target for Angie's Summer Challenge as well! Woohoo! I am stressed about packing. With everything that has been going on I haven't had much time to pack and we leave tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. so I am cutting it a little short but I should be okay. I just need to remember to focus and breathe and remind myself it is going to be fine and I am going to have fun. New adventures await! Until next time...
P.S. Corona has 148 calories and Corona Light has 109 per 12 oz.

S.H.I.T. = Sure Happy It's Thursday

I did not eat dinner last night. I had 2.5 4 oz. glasses of wine and when I got home I had toast. At least I got some steps in. I snuck a peak at the scale this morning and it said I am down another pound which makes 44 lbs. lost to date. I will confirm it tomorrow... I am now entering into uncharted territory. I have never lost more then 40 lbs. at one time. I KNOW in my heart and mind that I am going to succeed in reaching my goal weight and keeping it off for good. Until next time...

Turbulent Times

Had a good deficit yesterday. I think that is the first time since setting up my new mini-goal that I achieved the target calorie burn. I didn't work out but just a lot of walking around I guess. I went to Fish Market with mom last night because the Rosary is tonight. Tomorrow I will pick Dave up at 10:00 a.m. and then he has to be back at 4:00 p.m. It will be good to see him but not under these circumstances. Once I come back from my trip, he will be able to get outside passes and attend church and meetings. I think friends and family members can go there and have a meal with them also. He says the food is not bad... could be jail food so I guess that's something.

I am getting super excited about Alaska in light of everything... Only 3 more days!!! I am going to see if I can blog from my phone. I did it a long time ago but need to refresh my memory. I won't be able to upload my data but will be able to track my calories burned and activity through the digital display watch. Hopefully I can post pictures of our various shore excursions. Here is our itinerary:

7/19: Leave Seattle
7/20: Cruising
7/21: Ketchikan
7/22: Juneau
7/23: Skagway
7/24: Cruising
7/25: Victoria B.C.
7/26: Arrive in Seattle

I wanted to also thank everyone who commented yesterday about my quitting smoking. I took all of your comments to heart. I may chain smoke like a mad dog until Saturday but hopefully it will be the last time ever. Until next time...

Why Do I want to Quit Smoking?

Good deficit yesterday. I was able to start packing and got two loads of laundry done and put away so that was a big accomplishment for a Monday night.

I am a smoker. I haven't talked about it here in a long time but I wanted to make a list like my "Reasons to lose Weight" list. I am not a heavy smoker. I usually smoke about 5-7 per day. I also only do it at night unless I am super stressed at work which only happens once in a blue moon. I smoke the most when I am drinking and on the weekends. When I travel with my mom, I don't smoke. That means I will be 8 days without a cigarette. In the past, I would come home and resume smoking right away... This time I am entertaining the the thought of quitting... here are the reasons why:

  1. To be healthier
  2. Have better lung capacity
  3. Save money - $1,200 per year! (approx.)
  4. Whiter teeth
  5. Fresher breath
  6. Food tasting better
  7. Not smelling like an ashtray
  8. To add years to my life
  9. Not being socially ostracized for smoking (banned in parks, beaches, downtown area)
  10. To avoid deadly diseases like Cancer and Emphysema

Those are some pretty darn good reasons. I have never seriously thought of quitting before so this is a good sign. I also have some friends that recently quit and they were heavy smokers. My best friend Debby and Larry want to quit too so there would be support there. Thoughts to ponder for sure. Until next time...

5. To feel good in my own skin
6. To have better self-esteem
7. To put my actual weight on my Driver's License
8. To no longer have to wear 3x or never ever be over 300 lbs. again
9. To not be ostracized in public due to my weight again
10. To not have to worry about if I will fit in a booth at a restaurant
11. To not have to worry about breaking a chair or toilet seat if I sit on it
12. To no longer be considered MORBIDLY OBESE
13. To tackle the emotional reasons why I became obese

16. To be able to enjoy more in life
17. To be able to do a 5K walk for charity
18. To be with my friends and do active things like hiking and biking
19. To no longer feel like a prisoner in my own body
20. To be the woman I want to be inside and out!

Whirlwind Week Ahead

Did not quite reach my goal deficit on Satuday but close. Yesterday I was just a little over. I have a feeling this week is going to be a whirlwind. It is going to be busy at work since I will be out next week. I still have loads of laundry (FYI - Dave used to do all my laundry!) I need to pack which will be different because it is almost like packing for Fall/Winter. Then the services...
P.S. Speaking of packing... I hope this is the last time that I EVER have to pack insulin, syringes, pills and the friggin' CPAP machine. What a pain in the arse all that stuff is!!

Chill Day

For some reason I have been having trouble uploading data from my bugg on my laptop so no screenshots today. It was a totally chill day today. It was breezy and in the 80s. I did fine on food. I did nothing that I wanted to or needed to but it was a peaceful reflective day so I think that it was good in light of what has been going on lately. The Rosary is Wednesday and the funeral is Thursday so I will be able to attend. I am glad I can be there for Dave. Until next time...

After Awhile

After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul. And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning and company doesn't mean security. And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises. And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes ahead, with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child. And you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans, and futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight. After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much. So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to leave you flowers. And you learn that you really can endure; You really are strong, you really do have worth. And you learn, and you learn. With every goodbye you learn. ~ Virgina Shotall

Sad News

I got a call from Dave's sister Rebecca and Manuela passed away today around 6:00 p.m. Once the arrangements are made Dave will be able to attend the service. She was 84 years old. She was predeceased by her husband David who died 36 years ago in 1973. She never remarried. She had 4 children and Dave is the oldest. May she rest in peace...

Busy Saturday

Not a 4 digit deficit but not too shabby. I am off and running today. Taking mom to get a haircut and doing some errands and then I am going to start packing for the Cruise! Hope you have a great day. Until next time...

Friday, July 10, 2009

Good day yesterday with food and activity. Last night I wanted to have a snack and I could account for it in my "budget" and as I was walking to the kitchen I thought "Instead of a snack you should exercise because you weigh in tomorrow!" So I did. I did the Flirty Girl DVD for 20 mins. Who is this person who would forgo a snack for exercise?? Surely it couldn't be me? Well I got on the scale this morning and I lost 3 lbs. this week!!! I am so happy!! That is the most I have lost in one week since the first week. Woohoo!

On a more somber note, I want to thank all of you for your support and kindness in regard to Dave's mom. One of our friends suggested talking to the Public Defender to see if there is something they could do. I am going to call Dave's sister today to suggest it. I am taking my mom to get an injection in her retina today. It is supposed to slow down the advancement of her Macular Degeneration. I have a list of questions so it will be an enlightening visit. Until next time...

It Doesn't Look Good

I squeaked by with a 779 deficit because of low activity. I got a call from Dave's sister and his mom is not going to be released from the hospital. She has an infection that will not respond to antibiotics and because of her age (84) they won't do surgery. They will basically make her as comfortable as possible until the end. I called and left word for Dave to call home because the prognosis was not good. They will not allow him to visit her but will allow him to attend the funeral. I personally think they should so he could at least say goodbye but what can I do. Until next time...

Typical Wednesday

I didn't do the Core Rhythms DVD. I tried to find it and it wasn't where I thought it was. It is probably in the trunk of my car with a bazillion other things. I took it easy and only did one load of laundry. I was just super tired for some reason so I didn't push myself. Still achieved a good deficit. On a side note: I am getting a little neurotic about the scale again so I will have to hide it until Friday. Tonight I am going to Fish Market per usual. Until next time...

Full Moon Rising

Had a good day yesterday. I rode my bike to the Post Office and to my friend Danielle's to help her pack for a trip. I was a little worried about riding at night because I haven't put the headlight on that I got for my birthday and it is illegal not to have one. I did fine though and it felt great! What was super cool was that it was almost a full moon and it was SO bright and beautiful. I tried to take a picture with my phone but it didn't work.

I made a slight adjustment to my program in the bodybugg system. In keeping with my 80 lb. goal by the end of the year I set up a mini-goal of 20 lbs. by October 7th. It made the target deficit 750 cals which is only 100 more then before so I shouldn't have trouble achieving it. I have a TON of laundry to do tonight so I think I will try a new DVD that Nicole gave me called Core Rhythms. Have any of you tried it? At first glance it kinda looks like Zumba so it will probably be good. Until next time...

Out-of-Sorts Sunday

Had a pretty good day yesterday. I spent the night at my friends place and did not have any of my meds with me so I felt a little out of sorts. My mom and I went to see The Proposal. It is set in Sitka, Alaska and mom thought it would give me a little idea what it will be like. It was a cute movie. I laughed and cried! That is a thumbs up for me. Did not get much activity in but did not eat much so that is why there is such a big defecit. Last night was a little emotional. I got a call from Dave's sister AND daughter and they were telling me that Dave's 86 year old mother was in the hospital and that she was not doing well. I called the number I had for him so he would know what was going on. They did not give my message much validity because I am not a family member (Whatever!!) so I called his sister and gave her the info where he is at so she could call him and update him. Thank goodness she is doing much better now and should be released in a few days. Until next time...

Fun Fourth

I had a fun 4th of July! We had turkey sausage with a green salad, bbq macaroni salad which was phenom and some grilled peppers and onions with balsamic vinegar and Olive Oil. I didn't have much of a lunch so I had seconds on the veggies and a little more macaroni but overall did great on calories. We got to listen to some great music and I had a Lemon Drop. I haven't had one of those in a longgg time. It was divine! Didn't see any fireworks because most of the towns in the area have banned them and especially up in the mountains where we were. Hope you all had a good one! Until next time...

Independence Day!

Had a good day yesterday. I got in 5,620 steps and drank all my water. I got on the scale this morning and I was pleasantly surprised to see that I had lost the 2 lbs I was up yesterday. Hmmm... I guess I won't question it and just move forward as planned. Hope you all have a safe and Happy 4th of July and please take a moment to remember those who are fighting or have fought for our Independence.

Could have been worse...

I weighed myself this morning and I am up 2 lbs. It could have been worse... I celebrated a birthday and a few other special occasions and have not been active and therefore the gain. I am not too worried about it because at least I know why and what to do to change it. I went and got the gym tour this morning. I really like it! It is a brand new gym and has a lot of amenities that the other locations don't have. I didn't work out though because I have some cleaning and organizing to do at home and then I am taking my mom to get a pedicure and I am getting a manicure. I don't usually get them but it will help pass the time while my mom is getting her toes done. I plan on going to the gym tomorrow morning. In the afternoon I am going to go to Boulder Creek and BBQ with some friends and then catch a few sets of the band our friend plays in. I am going to be the DD. Hope you all are having a great holiday weekend! Until next time...

Psuedo Friday

Feels like a Friday! Yay! I didn't eat dinner last night so hence the big deficit. I got my pedi and then went to Danielle's and by the time I got home it was too late to eat dinner so I had some toast. I actually drank all my water yesterday and did 6,005 steps. Today I am getting my hair cut. I need to pull out my suitcase and start thinking about packing! 16 more days until we leave! I am planning on being at home tonight and tomorrow morning I will go to the gym.

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Hi July!

I had this epiphany before I left work yesterday that I didn't have to order a steak at the Outback. (Doh!) After going out to lunch I just didn't want to consume that much food and that many calories. I ended up having an Ahi Tuna appetizer as my entree (yum!) a small Caesar salad, half a sweet potato and a piece of bread. It worked out well and I ended up with a nice deficit. I updated my goals for July. I am still aiming for 6,500 steps per day. I want to get to the gym a minimum of 2x per week and get 64oz of water in daily. No excuses! Tonight I am getting a pedicure (Yay for happy toes!) and tomorrow I plan on FINALLY getting the tour of the new gym. Until next time...
